Beyond the Core Content
Journey K8 believes in meeting the needs of the whole child and helping students explore their interests and passions. Each week, time is set aside for Journey Exploration Time (JET) so that students may choose to participate in optional clubs that interest them. Offerings change throughout the year so that students can try more than one! A sample list of JET clubs, sponsored activities, and school events is below!
National Junior Honor Society
7th and 8th grade students with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and at least one semester of attendance at Journey K8 are invited to apply to NJHS. If accepted, they give back to their community through collaborative service projects and sharpen their personal leadership skills through individual service projects.
Whether you like being on camera or you prefer to work behind the scenes on filming and video editing, Broadcasting combines writing, video skills, and having fun with friends!
Middle schoolers who select this elective will learn the basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include digital photography, page design, writing captions and headlines, and using online tools for media production.
Cooking and Baking
This in-person club takes place in our on-site kitchen and teaches students various cooking and baking techniques and expands their familiarity with ingredients.
Tabletop RPG Games
Students socialize while engaging in a variety of tabletop gaming that challenges them to think creatively and strategically, and includes board games, deck-builders, and RPGs. Students do not need to have any experience or equipment to join!
This is all about combining inquiry and creativity through the use of a variety of tools and materials, including Cricut machines, sewing machines, green screens, and a multitude of everyday items. The possibilities are endless!
Journey K8 students have access coding curriculum that can be completed anywhere at anytime. With that knowledge, they can apply what they’ve learned and code our robots during their time at The Hub.
Whether it’s a specific grade level or the entire Journey K8 team including the parents, we periodically go on excursions to extend our learning outside the virtual classroom and into our community!
Earth Day Poster Contest
This optional contest taps into student’s artistic skills and allows them to create a poster that promotes Earth Day and the many ways we can each help take care of planet Earth.
District Culinary Arts Contest
Perfect for those that already love to cook and want to experiment with new ingredients, or those that are ready to enter the kitchen and begin developing their culinary skills, this optional contest is open to all!
Students may earn badges and awards for their demonstrations of strong character, achievement, responsibility, effort, and service.
From Art Studio to Minecraft Education Edition, other clubs are offered periodically based on interest!
